Errigal Mountain

Access: Dedicated car park on R251 (OSI map 6, grid ref: B942 197)

Difficulty level: Good level of fitness required, not recommended for young children, steep ground in some areas with loose stones underfoot. Appropriate footwear and hiking equipment should be worn

Total distance: 4.8km

Estimated time to climb & return to car park: Allow for 3.5hrs, dependent on fitness levels and weather.

Total climb ascent: 525m

Notable features: Following significant investment in 2022, a pathway has now been constructed from the car park that makes it much easier to navigate the boggy land at the beginning of your climb. As you continue to ascend you will begin to climb on loose stones (scree) that can be dangerous closer to the top. A defined path can be located all the way up to the summit. Extreme care should be taken when ascending and descending, the weather can change very quickly in Ireland with visibility being impacted by low cloud cover.

Rock window: A feature located when ascending the north side of mountain, this is a less walked route and is considerably more difficult than normal route. Extreme care is required when climbing using this route and recommended only for experienced individuals.
